Domestic Violence Awareness Module

Description: In this 30-minute module, we define domestic abuse, share Church teaching, and identify ways for identify signs of domestic violence so that married couples can avoid it. Individuals take a questionnaire about behaviors, then share privately with their partner. Questions for group discussion are also included. This module may be used with groups, with a sponsor couple, or for clergy pre-marriage sessions. It may also be used by someone for personal reflection as they prepare for marriage.
Catholics For Family Peace Education and Research Initiative promotes safe and healthy marriages and shares information about how to address the oft-unrecognized reality of domestic abuse in Catholic marriages. In collaboration with the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Domestic Violence Outreach, we have created this module for use in marriage preparation programs.
